WHY PEACE SILK?
Traditionally, silk is produced by boiling the cocoons of living silkworms and unwinding the filament in one long unbroken strand. During this process, the silkworm dies. Peace silk is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative that allows the silkworm to emerge from its cocoon and complete their life. The empty cocoons are then harvested for silk production.
WHY ONLY ONE COLOR?
The dying process discharges many chemicals into our waterways. Take a single pair of jean, for example. About 1,800 gallons of water are needed to produce a single pair of jeans, and about 6 1/2 pounds of chemicals. This pollution is destroying the soil, poisoning drinking water, and leading to death of aquatic life.
Our sustainable peace silk pillowcases are crafted using natural unbleached fabric, which is a lovely warm white.
WHERE DOES YOUR SILK COME FROM?
Our Ahimsaโข Peace silk is made from a special silk raised in rural India on small traditional family farms using methods consistent with organic certification. The smooth yarn is spun and fabric is woven in small mills in India. The silk is the high quality Bangalore India strain, which is the only type of Bombyx mori cultivated silkย correctly called โAhimsaโ, with a patent issued by the Indian government.
